    Napoleon's control over Spain in 1808 made the Spainards want to fight back! Napoleon took King Ferdinand VII off his thron and made this brother Joseph king. Very little spainards like the new King But most felt unloyalty to a king forced by the French. By 1810 everything cracked down in Latin America and the drive towards independence began !

    Simon Bolivar formally announced Spains independence in 1811 it was not easy ! It was only the beginning of the struggle. Bolivar had a group of volunteer soldiers but they were defeated twice and it once came to a point where Bolivar had to go into exile.
  • Martin Leads Southern Liberation Forces

    San Martin declared Argentinas independence in 1816 , but Spanish forces in Chile and Peru had made threating accusations. In 1817 San martin led his army on a march to Chile. Then he joined forces with Bernardo who led the army. O'Higgins finally let Chile free. In 1821 Martin planned to force the rest of the spanish people out of Lima. But he couldnt do that unless he had a bigger force. Something happened...Boulivar dismissed the problem when him and San Martin made an agreement in Guayaquil

    In August 1819, a turning point appeared! Bolivar led over 2,000 soldiers through the Andes into Columbia. The suprisingly crept upon a bogota and won the fight !

    By 1821 Venezuela won their independence. Bolivar then led his soldiers south into Equador. In Equador Bolivar met Jose da San Martin. They had became close and planned out the future of the Latin American Revolution
  • Last War Independece Won!

    The two men finally reached an agreement,but nobody knows how they possibly did. san martin decided not to run his army anymore so he left his army for Bolivar to lead ! Later Boulivar left and defeated the Spanish at the Battle of Ayacucho in Peru on December 9th 1824. It was the last war of independence and Latin america won their freedom and Venezula, Colombia, Panama, and Equador were then called Gran Colombia.
