French Revolution

  • 1770- Bad Government

    Due to a very unpopular queen and unwise king the France had a very bad government. Much like in the American revolution, King Louis was asking a for a lot of money (taxes) which he was not spending wisely.
  • 1770- Unfair Social Classes

    France was unfairly divided into three social classes or estates. The first being the clergymen, second the noblemen and third consisted of everyone else. These estates were especially unfair since the distribution of taxes was not equal at all and there was no way out of these specific classes.
  • 1789- The Women March on Versailles

    Due to their unfair social rank and rights, most women gather together dragging cannons from hotel de Ville to press their demands on king Louis and do so successfully and both the king and queen are now forced to go to Paris.
  • 1789- Storming of the Bastille

    Angry at the government, citizens gathered together to go against their king and destroy the bastille completely as an act of rebellion against their government.
  • 1791- The Royal Family

    Pressured by the peoples hatred, King Louis and the royal family tries to escape but they are discovered, brought back to paris and but under a watchful eye
  • 1792- War

    France declares war on the Hapsburg Monarchs. Rumors of King and Queens treason (betrayal on the country) start to spread through France.
  • 1793- King Louis Death

    After the rumors have spread, King Louis is tried for treason and is proven guilty so he is sent to his death and is killed my the Newley invented guillotine.
  • 1794- Reign of Terror

    Robespierre is killed and he was the one who started the conventions. Thousands of people were sent to the guillotine to die.
  • 1794- C.O.P.S.

    The committee of public safety was made to protect the state, people were tried for political crimes and more than 40,000 people were killed by the guillotine (seen as the most efficient way of dying)
  • 1799- Napoleon

    Napoleon takes over, overthrows the directory and becomes the first cancel of France and then crowns himself as emperor of France.
