  • Estates General is called

    Estates General is called
    When King Louis XVI decided to tax the Second Estate, the nobles forced him to call a meeting known as the Estates-General. This is an assembly of representitives from all three estates, and they were called together to approve the new tax. Because the First and Second Estates were so similiar, they always had the same vote on every topic, overuling the Third Estate every time.
  • Storming of Bastille

    In the storming of the Bastille, mobs of peasants stormed the Bastille and destroyed the symbol of oppression brick by brick. The mobs felt that tehy were neglected by the second and third estate. This event marked a new beggining for France. The Bastille used to be used as a political prision. Soon after the storm, they went to the city hall and set up a new city government.

  • War is declared on Austria and Prussia

    In 1792, King Louis XVI (who had attemted to flea the country the year before) declared war on Austria and Prussia. This Cost a lot of money and the French were not winning the war.
  • France invades Belgium and Germany

    It was an unexpected distraction from the revolution. This caused alot of food shortages. Thus this caused those of the lower estates to get angery and rebell.
  • Convention declares France a Republic

    The convection had to over see the elections, and then establish the First French Republic and take the powers away from the king.
  • King Louis XVI is sent to guillotine

    Monarchy is finally ended. Also revolution loses its direction because it was focused on killing the king. Robespierre comes to rule and people gain power before robespierre comes to power.
  • Reign of Terror begins

    The Reign of Terror was important because it helped get rid of the peasentss or people that did not agree with the Revolution. The downside was that peoples individual rights were taken away
  • Robespierre executed

    Began national drift. Organized production of food, uniforms, and other supplies. Had largest army in Europe. With things organized and going better, people saw no need for committee of public safety. Robespierre would not give up power-he and 20 followers were sent to the guillotine.
  • Directory is established

    The country began to establish a government that excluded royals. This system used a constitution, had a house of legislature, but it often had to bend the constittution. Thus, it became a corrupt governent again. For the revolution to continue they will need to find a new path to follow.
