    The National Assembly was formed when the Third Estate wanted to take action and establish its own government.

    The March of Women happened because the lower classes were still unsatisfied that no food was coming their way. There were rumors that food was being held in Versailles, so thousands of starving women and peasants marched on Versailles. They forced Lois to return to Paris.

    The Civil Constitution of the Clergy
    There was a financial crisis so the National Assembly confiscated and sold off church lands. The church was also secularized and the Clergy swore an oath of loyalty.

    France declared war with Austria. War of the First Coalition; imposed Levee en masse( military draft).

    The Radicals Take Over
    A Paris mob stormed the Tuileries. Louis and his family seeked aid of the Legislative Assembly but they were arrested and deposed of.

    They first met on September 21, 1792. Monarchy was abolished and France officially became a republic. There were two factions the Jacobins and the Girondins.

    On January 17, 1793, Louis XVI was convicted of treason. Four days later he went to the guillotine on January 21, 1793.

    Robespierre was overthrown on nine Thermidor. The Committee of Public Saftey was dismantled and the Jacobin clubs disbanded. There was a new constitution adopted in August 1795.
