The Storming of the Bastille
The Storming of the Bastille also knows as the spark of revolution which happened in Paris. In this event, the peasants were so rebellious against the king that they gained the power to mob the French prison. -
State general called
On May 5th, 1789 the State General meeting was called by King Louis XVI for the first time in over after 175 years. The king called this because the country was facing financial problems due to the seven years war( revolutionary war) so he wanted to get more tax revenue. -
National Assembly Formed
The national assembly in France was formed by the third states ( peasants and bourgeoisie) It happened because King Louis the XVI was not listening to the peasants despite their largest population. -
Tennis Court Oath
After King Louis, the XVI locked the meeting door the peasants get mad and went to the Tennis Court Oath because they wanted a better representation. This finally creates the document of "Declaration of rights of man and citizen" which is only for men. -
Constitutional Monarchy
The peasants of French come from an absolute monarchy( total power) to a constitutional monarchy( government for the people). In this constitutional monarchy, people can share power and establish national symbols that are focused on the citizen instead of the nobility and the clergy( church). -
Reign of Terror Begins
Robespierre was the one who was in charge of the Reign of Terror. He was elected to the "Committee of public safety" which will protect France against its enemies. This begins after the King and his wife were killed. This made the people fear losing their enlightened society because if they say anything about the king or the queen they will be beheaded. -
Reign of Terror Ends
Finally, the Reign of Terror ends because Robespierre was arrested and killed. -
France a Republic
After the French Revolution ended in 1789, France becomes a republic. Because there are no more divine rights of kings ( king on Earth) or an absolute monarchy. After the powerful Monarchy was changed to constitutional French become a republic country. -
King Louis XVI & Marie Antoinette Beheaded
Since King Louis XVI is a weak king it made the country weak. furthermore, he couldn't address the financial crisis that the country was facing plus he exempted the nobility and clergy from paying taxes only peasants pay. However, after the National Assembly, the king and his wife were soon found guilty and both were beheaded.
