    The first meeting of the Estates-General in 175 years to make a new tax.
    Estates-General: Assembly made of representatives of all three estates.

    National Assembly
    National Assembly was made by the Third Estate to make laws in the name of the French people. Led to Tennis Court Oath.
    National Assembly: French congress made by representatives of the Third Estate to make laws and reforms for the French.
    Tennis Court Oath: Pledge by the members of the National Assembly where they said they will always continue meeting until there was a constitution.
  • Bastille

    Bastille
    Many people from the Third Estate went into the Bastille for gunpowder and killed all the guards. The Bastille went to the ground. The Great Fear started
    Great Fear: Great panic in France after the Bastille got attacked.
  • Feudalism

    Feudalism
    Noblemen made great speeches about liberty and equality and joined with the National Assembly. Feudalism is ended, divisions between estates ended.
  • Declaration of Rights of Men

    The National Assembly made the Declaration of Rights of Man and of the Citizen stating that “men are born and remain free and equal in rights.”
    Declaration of the Rights of Men: A statement the National Assembly made that was reflecting the influence of the Declaration of Independence.

    Many women from Paris rioted because the prices of bread were starting to be exceptionally big. Led by the san-culottes.
    San-Cullotes: Radical group of people from Paris that are wage-earners and shopkeepers that want a bigger part in the government of lower prices.

    France is divided into 83 départements. Also, the National Assembly became in charge of the Church. Assembly reforms France.

    The king and his family tried to run away from France but they were caught and brought back.
    Emigres: People who leave their country for political reasons, like the nobles and other important people.

    King Louis XVI signs a new constitution in front of the National Assembly. It is now a limited monarchy and s Legislative Assembly is created.
    Legislative Assembly: French congress that had power to create laws and approve declarations of war.
