    First Mosque in India

    The first mosque was built in 629. Cheraman Perumal gave up being the king in pursuit of becoming a Muslim. He made the trip to meet with the Prophet Muhammad. He became a Muslim. He died on his way back to Kerala. Habib ibn Malik, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad, constructed this mosque per Cheraman Perumal's request and named it Chereman Perumal Masjid (Khan, 2002).

    Muhammad bin Qasim was appointed to bring Umayyad (Muslim dynasty) control over many cities during his trip to Sindh. Most of the cities were under Buddhist and Hindu control and welcomed Qasim (Alkhateeb, 2023).

    Once Qasim reached Sindh, Dahir, the ruler of Sindh, opposed Qasim. Dahir's army and Qasim's army went to war. The Muslims proved to be victorious (Alkhateeb, 2023).

    Mughal Empire ruled until 1707. Non-Muslims were tolerated throughout this Empire's rule (Soul of India: Timeline, 2002).

    Great Britain Rule

    At this time, Great Britain assumed the rule of India. By then many areas had been practicing Islam and had quite a Muslim population (Soul of India: Timeline, 2002).
