The fighting was intense. There was no mercy for those who were not Christian at this time in the holy land. They fought in the name of Chirst in a most unchristian way. In thier minds they were justified for thier actions.

Francis Assissi camped between the two armies of the Christians and the Muslims for an attempt at peace which was unsuccessful.

St. Francis was so moved by his experience at the attempting of peace between the Christians and the Muslims that he wrote a book in which he devoted a chapter to the topic of living alongside the Muslims. He stated Christians should remain silent about the Qur'an and about Muhammad.
