  • Tennis Court Oath

    Tennis Court Oath
    The members of the Third Estate wanted each citizen to have one vote. Members of the Third Estate were locked out of the meeting of the Estates-General so they moved to the tennis court and made an oath to never seperate until France had a Constitution.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    Storming of the Bastille
    The peasants came to the aid of the bourgeoisie because Louis decided to use force to crush the Assembly. People stormed the Bastille to free prisioners, remove the cannon, and get gun powder. This became a symbol of the Revolution.
  • The Death of Louis XVI

    The Death of Louis XVI
    The people of France turn agains Louis. He is imprisioned. Radicals take over the Legislative Assembly and call for a National Convention. The National Convention votes on the kings fate and the verdict is guilty. The king is then executed.
  • Reign of Terror

    Reign of Terror
    This was led by Robespierre. People that were opposed to the Revolution were executed. The criminal court held trials of those denounced. Tens of thousands were killed.
  • The Directory

    The Directory
    After Robespierre's death, the moderates were back in power. A commitee of five men governed France. The Directory was the second to last stage of the French Revolution.
