Charles II is restored to the throne (Restoration)

    James I takes the throne

    In 1567, Queen Elizabeth had no children, Her closest relative was her cousin James. She then allowed him to take the throne and he made different regulations. He refused to make Purtitan reforms during his rule. Since, he did not make reforms he offened the Purtians of the Parliament.
  • Charles I signs the Petition of Right

    I9n 1628, Charles signed the Petition of Right. He was forced by the Parliament, to sign this right if he wanted to obtain money. He then signed it, and went along with the right for a short amount of time then started to ignore it. His popularity then came to an end, and began to decrease.
  • English Civil War

    Royalist battled the Parliamentary. Royalist believed the power rested in the king. Parlimentary believed that the king should not have absolute power.
  • Oliver Cromwell invades Ireland

    The Purtinans take place that Oliver invades Ireland. He defeated the calivers, and brought Charles to trial. He made Ireland be ruled by a military dictator.
  • Oliver Cromwell abolishes Parliament

    Cromwell came into power after the civil war had occured. He claimed to be looking for a democratic system. He ended up ruling as a military dictator.
  • Charles II is restored to the throne (Restoration)

    In 1659 Charles II restored the throne. He was able to come onto the throne again because of Cromwell dying, and the parliament choosing him. He restored many different things such as the theater, dancing, and sporting events. The significance of Charles being restored to the throne is he passed a law called habeas corpus, which guranteed freedom of others.
  • Habeas Corpus is passed

    The Parliament, in 1679 passed Habeas Corpus. It gave the rights for prisoners to obtain a document to be able to go to the judge to see if they can be set free. The prisoners would either get freedom or captivity. The people that took place in this was the Judge, and the Parliament.
  • James II comes to the throne~1685

    Charles II died allowing the throne to have an open spot. In 1685, James II took the throne. During his reign he appointed catholics to high office. He then fled to France, having the Glorious Revolution take place.
  • English Bill of Rights

    In 1689, the Parliament drafted the Enlgish Bill of Rights. The English Bill of Rights passed different laws showing what rulers could not do.
