    Lord Selkirk sent a group of immigrants to establish a settlement on the Red River. This area is now Manitoba.

    The US declared war on the UK. The US tried to capture Upper and Lower Canada, but Canadian troops managed to fight them off. This helped to create a sense of Unity among Canadians.

    The Frech citizens of Canada were becoming bitter about the way their government was being run.

    A revolt lead by Louis Joseph Papineau in Lower Canada took place. This convinced the British Government that there were problems with the government in Canada

    The province of Canada and Nova Scotia gain responsible government.

    The American Civil War increased the demand for Canadian goods.

    The Province of Canada approves the plan for Confederation, but Newfoundland and PEI reject it.

    The British North America Act, which established the Dominion of Canada, took effect. Canada had four provinces at the time- New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec.
