    A group organized as a "literary club" actually transformed into what is now an independent nation. Thanks to those individuals Mexico is were it is today. In this "club", Allende, Miguel Dominguez and several others planned for the seperation of New Spain from Spain.

    Galvan told his superiors about the plan, who then told the audiencias. Therefore the Spanish started searching for the counspiracy. That night, Hidalgo and several others were arrested due to the fact that the spaniards found guns and weapons at Epigmenio Gonzales house.

    The Mexican Catholic priest and leader of the Mexican Independence, Miguel Hidalgo, took the first step towards the revolution giving the "Grito of Dolores" inspiring hundreds of people all around Mexico. With the Virgin of Guadalupe as his symbol, the people were strongly influenced and inspired by him.

    Hidalgo began his approach to Guanajuato. He was joined by hundreds of people which when arrived, opened fire and conquered Guanajuato. Juan José Martínez gathered sticks and soft pine torches and set fire to the wooden door. Over 500 spaniards and 2,000 rebels were killed. Hidalgo and Allende now felt strong enough to seperate their armies into two powerful ones.

    Hidalgo had an army of around 8,000 marching towards Mexico City. Battle took place at the Monte de las Cruces; there Hidalgo proved that sheer numbers could overcome small, disciplned, proffesional armies.

    Royalist caught up with the rebels. Here, Hidalgo and Allende had numerical superiority but General Calleja conducted his operations superbly, therefore resulting in Hidalgo and Allende having to retreat. A spanish artillery man hit an explosive ammunition truck which had a large effect on Hidalgo's army.

    A Spanish firing squad decapitated and killed both of these revolution leader.

    José María Morelos assumed leadership of the independence movement. Later, the congress formally declared independence and agreed upon several principals that would ultimately help the people. Morelos then became a more fugitive than commander and in 1815, was caputured and taken to Mexico City. He then was like Hidalgo, tried for treason and killed by the firing squad.

    The former spanish officer, Agustín de Iturbide assumed leadership of the independence in 1820. The plan contained 23 articles but the 3 major ones stated that the independent Mexican nation would be organized as a constitutional monarchy and the crown would be offered to Kind Ferdinand (or any other appointed Euro-prince). Secondly, the Roman Catholic religion would be given a monoply (third criollos and spanish would be treated equal). Lastly a new army would by placed under Iturbides command.

    The entrance of Iturbide marked the end of 11 years of war. Iturbide named himself emperor of Mexico. Military became very involved in political decisions and seperation in hierarchy classes were not yet resolved. Mexico City demonstrated poor ability in governing themselves. No one could predict the instability in Mexico.
