    Napoleon the dictator of France invited the king of Spain and the heir to the throne his son.What Napoleon did was he captured the king and his son and imprisoned them.He then gave the the crown of spain to his brother making him king of spain.
  • 1810 Seperation

    The Spanish governor was deprived of his powers and was forced out of Venezuela, a junta took over. Bolívar was then sent on a mission to London and he arrived in July. His assignment was to explain to England the difficult situation of the revolutionary colony, to receive recognition for it, and to obtain arms and support.

    A national congress met in Caracas to draft a constitution. Bolívar involved himself into the debate that aroused the country. In the first public speech of his career, he declared, “Let us lay the cornerstone of American freedom without fear. To hesitate is to perish.” After long thought, the national assembly gave Venezuela’s independence on July 5, 1811.

He intended to force undecided creoles to choose between independence and submission to colonialism. He declared a second republic once he reached Caracas in August and assumed the role of a military director.

    He was given the title of Liberator and assumed political dictatorship. The war of independence was just beginning, however. The majority of the people of Venezuela were dangerous to the forces of independence and tired of giving sacrifices. A civil war broke out, and Bolívar resorted to measures, such as the shooting of prisoners.
  • José Antonia Paez gave Bolivar a thousand cavalry

    José Antonia Paez, a very powerful military leader, saw Bolivar’s skill and command and granted him a thousand cavalry. This brought up Bolivar’s number to four thousand troops. In order to achieve what he set out to do, Bolivar now just needed some foreign aid.
  • Bolivar writes the Angostura Address

    After learning about British political virtues, Bolivar wrote the address. He commended the British constitution for being “the most worthy to serve as a model for those who desire to enjoy the rights of man and all political happiness compatible with our fragile nature.” He also mentioned the American constitution, and Bolivar’s main aim was liberty.
  • The Battle of Carabobo

    This battle took place in Venezuela, and at the Battle of Carabobo it was a victory for Bolivar. He was able to pull together many forces into one large army that even gained praise from the British Legion.

    Bolivar and General Sucre worked together to end the revolution for independence. The long fight ended with Upper Peru. After the battle Bolivar named the new state of Bolivia after himself and wrote its constitution.
