    753 BCE

    Mars the god of war has twins. Romulus and Remus, Romulus becomes the ruler and names the kingdom Rome after killing his brother. He is king until 715 BCE when he dies. Ancient Rome is ruled by kings for the next 240 years.

    New Ruler

    There is a new ruler, Numa Pompilius. During his reign the creation of the priestly offices and the Roman Senate
  • 673 BCE

    New Ruler

    Tullus Hostilius is king. He creates a senate called Curia Hostilia.
  • Period: 617 BCE to 578 BCE

    Rome is ruled by Lucius Tarquinius Priscus

    He builds the Circus Maximus, Installs the first few sewer systems, and institutes the first census
  • Period: 534 BCE to 509 BCE

    The Last Roman King

    Lucius Tarquinius Superbus is the last roman. king. He was very useful when creating the temple called Jupiter Optimus Maximus.

    Roman Public Period Begins

    A new government system is installed that includes a constitution, a complex republican government, and elected officials called senators, which the people elected. A year later the office of the High Priest is created.

    Ancient Rome defeats the Latin League at the Battle of lake Regulus
  • 451 BCE

    Twelve Tables

    The Twelve Tables of Roman Laws by Decemviri are published.

    The Assemble of People

    The assemble of People is formed. Two Quaestors are elected for the first time. Quaestors supervised treasury, armies, financial affairs, and army officials.

    Marriage

    Marriage between Patricians and Plebeians is allowed
  • 396 BCE

    More Battles Won + Money

    The Ancient Romans defeat the Etruscans, and Roman soldiers receive their first paycheck.
  • 390 BCE

    DEFEAT

    The Ancient Romans lose against the Gauls at the battle of Allia. The Gauls would go on to sack Ancient Rome.

    1st non patrician consul

    Lucius Sextius Sextinus is elected as the first non patrician consul.

    The Ancient Romans defeated the Etruscans, and a Gallic Tribe named the Boii at the battle of lake Vadimo.

    The number of quaestors moved from four to six.

    WAR

    The first punic war begins with Carthage. The war ended with the defeat of Carthage. Sardinia, Corsica, and Carthage become the first ancient Roman provinces.

    The army defeats Gallic at the battle of telamon. One year later they defeat the Gauls again.

    Second Punic War

    The second war begins against Carthage.
  • 216 BCE

    War

    Hannibal leads Carthage over the Alps, they invade the city of Rome. The ancient roman army is defeated at the battle of Cannae.

    The end of the second punic war

    Hannibal is defeated at the battle of Zama by the Scipip Africanus Major who invaded Africa. This ends the second punic war.

    Another Punic War (Spoiler alert, this one is also against Carthage.)

    The third Punic War, it is also against Carthage.

    The third war ends

    Scipio Aemilianus Africanus destroys the cities of Carthage and Corinth which ends the third punic war. After Ancient Greece falls the ancient Romans adopt the Ancient Greeks culture into their society.

    Someone is killed.

    Tiberius Gracchus approves agrarian reform and is killed.
  • 107 BCE

    Someone is elected.

    Gaius Marius was elected consul. He institutes the Marian reforms of the military. These reforms established a standing army and drafting non-property owners into the army.

    Spartacus

    Spartacus, a gladiator, leads a rebellion of slaves. two years later in 71, he was killed.
  • 67 BCE

    Pompey

    He eliminates pirates from the Mediterranean sea. He's also the first ancient roman general to reach the Euphrates river securing new colonies along the way that increased the annual income of the roman empire.

    The First Triumvirate

    The First Triumvirate is formed with the alliance of three generals: Pompey, Crassus, and Julius Caesar.
  • 45 BCE

    Julius Caesar

    Julius Caesar is the first dictator of ancient Rome after defeating Pompey. This brings closure to the ancient roman republic.
  • 44 BCE

    Assasination

    Julius caesar is assassinated by Marcus Brutus during the Ides in March. A civil war begins in Rome.
  • 43 BCE

    Second Triumvirate

    Octavian, Antony, and Lepidus form the Second Triumvirate.
  • 31 BCE

    Defeat

    Cleopatra and Antony are defeated by Octavian at the battle of Actium. A year later Antony and Cleopatra suicide and Egypt becomes a roman colony.

    Name Change

    Octavian changes his name into Caesar Augustus and becomes the first roman emperor.

    Caligula and Claudius

    Caligula is named emperor, in 41 CE Claudius becomes emperor and invades Britain in 43 CE

    Nero

    Nero becomes emperor. In 64 CE he allows the city of Rome to burn to the ground and blames it on christians.

    Colosseum

    The romans finish building the colosseum which seats 50,000 spectators.
  • 117

    Hadrian

    Hadrian becomes emperor. In 122, CE, Hadrian's wall is constructed in Northern England to keep barbarians out of the Roman Empire.

    The end of the Five Good Emperors.

    Marcus Aurelius is named emperor. He dies in 180 CE. This mars the end of the five good emperors.

    Diocletian

    Diocletian becomes emperor. He makes Constantius 1 the co emperor of the Western Roman Empire
  • 306

    Emperor Theodosius 1

    He makes christianity the single religion in the Roman Empire. in 395 CE he would officially split the Roman Empire into two halves.
  • 380

    Constantine 1

    He is named the Emperor. He would convert to christianity. In 330 CE he made Constantinople the new capital of the Roman Empire.

    The fall of the Eastern Roman Empire

    Rome is invaded and destroyed by Alaric 1, and in 447 CE. Attila the hun crushes the eastern roman empire.

    The fall of the Western Empire of Rome.

    Romulus Augustus is named emperor, one year later the Wester roman empire falls.
