  • France fells into debt

    due to mostly the high expenses in parties and jewels of the king and queen France fell into debt.
  • Meeting of Estates General

    King Loius XVI wanted to give higher taxation towards nobility so he could regain his money. The Estates General assembly took place on Versailles
  • Representative democracy

    The Third Estate created the National Assembly and voted to end absolute monarchy and begin a new representative democracy in the French government.
  • The Bastille prison

    A French mob looking for gunpowder infiltrated the Bastille prision which was a symbol of monarchy. It was later known as a great act of revolution.
  • Feudalism no more

    The National Assembly took meeting to eradicate the feudal system meaning that nobles, commoners and royal family had equal rights.
  • Legislative body

    The National Assembly created a new constitution in which the French government would be a constitutional monarchy which King Louis also agreed. This also created a new Legislative Body:
  • French declares war

    Austria and Prussia scared that a revolutionary act will happen in their home country, went to France to change the government back to absolute monarchy. The Legislative Assembly in disagreement declare war on them.
  • Reign of Terror

    Maximilien Robespierre leader of the Jacobins becomes a dictator and creates a reign of terror in France which is responsible for more than 40,000 executions
  • Decapitation of King Louis XVI

    King Louis the 16 now that he was a common citizen, was arrested and charged with treason. He was later decapitated in the guillotine.
  • End of Revolution

    The French revolution ends with the end of the reign of terror after the execution of Robespierre.
