    INITIATION - Marino Galván, a postal clerk that helping to plan a conspiracy against the Spanish government, leaked news of the conspiracy and the people involved in it to the peninsulares in the government of New Spain. The Spanish government began to search for those involved to capture and blame them for treason against their mother country.
  • Grito de Dolores

    Grito de Dolores
    INITIATION - Priest Miguel Hidalgo, who had planned for the conspiracy along with others, decided to begin the movement that day out of rush, and rang the church bells in Dolores, attracting many. The speech he gave after doing so marked the beginning of the Mexican Independence movement.
  • Siege of Guanajuato

    Siege of Guanajuato
    INITIATION - Miguel Hidalgo leads the growing rebel army to the city of Guanajuato, where they attack the citizens and the Spaniards. This provided a great sense of shock to the Spaniards who were not expecting for this to happen. This is where el Pípila, who later became a local hero, set on fire the area where the Spanish where hiding, which led to the victory of the rebels over the conquering of the city. However, this is simply a legend and not a real event in history.

    Battle of Monte de las Cruces
    INITIATION - Hidalgo and Allende’s troops fought against Trujillo’s Spanish troops in the Sierra de las Cruces mountains between Mexico City and Toluca, rebels were victorious but Hidalgo decided to retreat to Guanajuato instead of pursuing to Mexico City.

    Battle of Calderón Bridge

    INITIATION - Calleja led the royalist army to attack the rebels in the Calderón Bridge, and the Spanish resulted victorious after fighting agains the armies led by Miguel Hidalgo and Ignacio Allende.

    END OF INITIATION STAGE - Miguel Hidalgo was captured by Spanish forces and executed for treason against the crown.

    Battle of Temalaca

    CONSOLIDATION - The rebel army was led by José María Morelos, the priest who had taken Miguel Hidalgo's position as leader of the radicals, and royalist army was led by Manuel de la Concha. The Spanish royalists resulted victorious and, after the battle, Morelos was soon captured and executed.

    RESISTANCE - Sporadic guerrilla wars took place throughout the country; rebels continued to fight against the Spanish but were not successful. This began after the death of José María Morelos.
