In the 200s Rome’s economy began to fall. As. The government weakened along with the law and order. Invaders and Roman soldiers began to still crops and destroy fields. The farmers stopped growing enough food for everyone so hunger began to spread to everyone. -

In 235 A.D, the last person of the royal family died. Rome's government became very weak for almost 50 years. The leaders fought each other for the throne in that time there were 22 different emperors. Because of poor leadership fewer and fewer people respected the old ideas of duty, courage, and honesty. -

An emperor named Diocletian tried to make changes in the Roman empire. His plans were to divide the empire into four parts and to name officials to rule over them (Diocletian was still in charge over all). He also wanted to set the price of goods and wages. Another thing he wanted to do is make workers work at the same job until the die, so that more goods would be made. All of his plans failed, because the people ignored his rules. He did not have enough power to make them obey. -

In 312 A.D. a general named Constantine became the emperor. He issued several orders to save the economy. Like the sons of workers had to follow their fathers to work, the sons of farmers had to work on the land that their father had to work, and sons of soldiers had to serve in the army. His changes did not stop the decline in the west empire so he moved the capital from the west to the east. -

In 337 A.D. Constantine died, so war broke out again. When Theodosius gained control of the empire and stopped all of the fighting he decided to divide the empire.
