    On 26 July 1909, trade unions and anarchists organised a general strike in Barcelona to protest against the war. The goverment sent the army to end the riot, and protestors bulit barricades on the streets of Barcelona. The goverment finally restore order,but over a hundred people had been killed, and five leaders of the protests were executed

    Spain was neutral during WWI, so it supplied both side with prodects needed for the war. The Spanish economy grew quickly but it also caused high inflamation.This meant that many people become poorer. THis helped to caused three separate crises in 1917:
    -Army officers in peninsula Spain formed juntas de defensa.
    -A group of republicans, socialists and Catalan nationalistsformed an unoffivisl ``parliamentary assembly´´
    -PSOE and UGT organised a general strike to bring about political change.
