In 509 b.c.e. the Romans drove out the etruscans and set up a new goverment, they called this goverment a republic; some of the officals were chosen by the people. In the early age of the republic the senate dominated the government . Its member were patricains (landholding class).Then common people gained some political power; included the right to elect their own officals called tribunes. The tribune could veto or block laws they felt harmed pleubains.

Julius Ceaser

Julius Ceaser was a general. He formed the first triuphest.Julius Ceaser gains alot of power. He tries to become a dictater.He was killed on March 44 b.c.e.. AFter his death civil wars break out.

The second triuphest

The second triuphest was formed by Octavain, Mark Atony, and Lipedest. Soon after the triuphest is formed Lipedest retires. Then trpuble arises....Mark Atony meets Cloepatra. They start dating, Cleopatra wants to help rule Rome and join Eygpt and Rome and make one big empire, Octavian doesnt like this.So Mark Atony and Octavain start to fight. Octavain wins, Cleopatra kills herself and so does Mark Atony. Octavain is the sole leader.

The empire expands

The Roman empire expands. It gains control oce the Italain peninsula,and begins to bulid the emmpire around the mediterranean sea. It established control over forgein lands and peoples.Carathage, Macedonia, Greece and Asia Minor become Roman provinces. Becomes a huge empire.

The Augustes reform is a civil service to enforce the laws. Helped make high level hobs for men of talent. Alowed cities and provinces to govern themselves. Ordered a census to make taxing fair. Set up postalservices and issued a new set of coins. Also they set up aqueduct so tey could have running water..

Marcus Aurlius ruled from 161 c.e. to 180 c.e.. He is condsidered the last of the "5 good emperors". He unififed the empire econonmically, He spent most of his time putting down rebellions and fighting off invasions. But he made one bad call it was choosing his son Commodus to follow him as emperor.

When Rome falls into civil war invaders attack the empire. The people of Rome called these invaders barbarians. First around 400 c.e. Rome could no longer hold off the invaders. THen around 410 c.e. the Visigoths capture and loot Rome. And around 456 c.e. the Vandals leave Roem powerless. And then around 476 c.e. the ostrogoths led the final collapse. After Rome falls the eastern part stayes strong and wealthy, and Constantinople becomes the captial of the Byzantine empire.

The empire crumbles

One of the biggest cause of the empire to fall was bad leaders who spent most of the empires money on themselves. Also christian is just beginning to develop and the leaders dont like them. For example when one of the emperors set Rome on fire he blamed the Christains. There was then haterd towards the Christains, and they started to get killed. Also they hire mercenary soldiers who were only lolay to the money they were payed. The size of the empire becomes hard to manage. And lastly there were

Commodu was Marcus Aurelius's son, but he didn't help the empire like his father did. He used money for parties and on himself. Was more interseted in entertainment and used most of the empires money on it. He hosted month long ciruses. He ruled from 180 c.e. to 192 c.e.. He let other people help him rule the empire. When he was short on money he killed the rich and took their money, He was assinated on 12/31/192 c.e...... the emprie falls into 50 years of decline.
