The Spanish protectorate in Morocco is established
This was a pact between Spain and France to control the moroccan territory. In this pact Spain gained the administration of 5% of the moroccan territory. In this territory is included the rif area. With this protectorates Spain had all the power in that territory. -
Rebellion in Annual
In 1921 the spanish suffered a great disaster in the region of Annual. In this moment there was a rebellion led by Abd el-Krim. The spanish had to retreat their troops while the leader of the revolution formed the Rif Republic. -
Alhucemas Landing
This was an operation by the Spanish army and Navy and also with the help of some of the French soldiers. This is considered to be the first amphibious landing in history, this means that the army and navy cooperated to use ships and tanks at the same time. Also this landing started the victory of the Spanish and French. -
The Rif War ends
In this moment the Spanish French had been able to gain the control over the rif republic. So the territory of northern Morocco was now in the possession of the Spanish and French people. THis war was very bloody because many people of both sides died. -
Consequences of the War
The Rif war was very bad seen in Spain and it caused lot of conflicts in the spanish society. Some people in Spain didn't understand the why did Spain had involved in such a bloody war just because they didn't agree with the opinion of the Moroccans.
