  • Haitian Revolution

    Haitian Revolution
    The Haitian Rev. has been described as the most successful slave rebellion in the Western Hemisphere. The rebellion started in 1791 but by 1803 they succeeded in ending slavery. But they also ended French control over the colony. These revolution were influenced by French Revolution of 1789. There was about 30,00 free black people in 1789.
  • Mexican War of Independence

    Mexican War of Independence
    Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla launch the Mexican War of Independence. Iturbide defeated the Royalist, they were forced to accept the Mexican independence. No Bourbon monarch to rule Mexico, Iturbide was proclaimed the emperor of Mexico. But his empire was short lived. That's when Guadalupe Victoria was set as president.

    The Spanish Empire experienced a crisis.In order to gain more power, the smaller regional juntas in Spain joined together. But many didn't want to join because they were scared. Many colonial juntas sought to retain power of self-governance and fought for independence. San Martin successfully liberated Chile from the Spanish royalists. He wanted to set up Peru as a republic. Bolivar finished what San Martin had begun and liberated Peru.

    Was when Prince Dom Pedro declared Brazil's independence from Portugal. In 1802, Portugal experienced the Constitutional Revolution. The king of Brazil left the country in the hands of his son. Pedro pledge his loyalty to Brazil. He said, “Hail to the independence, to freedom and to the separation of Brazil. For my blood, my honor, my God, I swear to give Brazil freedom. Independence or death!” He wrote a letter to his father to make the war of independence for Brazil.

    Greece was controlled by the Turks. The rebellion begins in Moldavia when an army of 4500 Hellenes led by General Alexander Ypsilantis. About 25,000 Greeks are killed while in Peloponessos the Greeks kill 15,000 of the 40,000 Turks. It took 8 years, 6 months and 3 weeks.

    Simon Bolivar was a revolutionary who freed six countries. Many Latin Americans wanted him to be their ruler. But some didn’t while other well tried to kill him. The Latin American independence movement started a year after Bolivar’s return. Napoleon failed completely to gain support of the Spanish colonies. His assignment was to explain to England the plight of the revolutionary colony, to gain recognition for it, and to obtain arms and support.

    A movement in the arts and literature that originated in the late 18th century. The state or quality of being romantic. Romanticism can be seen as a rejection of the precepts order. The violent and terrifying images of nature conjured by Romantic artists.

  • German Unification

    German Unification
    Camillo di Cavour directed Italian unification. Prussia property stretched from modern-day Lithuania to central Germany.Prussia competed with with Austria for dominance over a series of small principalities. The German lands around the Rhine River in the west was also controlled by Prussia. Alsace-Lorraine was transferred to Germany in the peace settlement so that would allow Prussia to declare the German Empire.

    It was the movement to unite Italy into one. Giuseppe Mazzini and his leading learner, Giuseppe Garibaldi failed to create Italy united by democracy. But then Comilo di Cavour finally united Italy under the crown of Sardinia.
