    America gains independence on July 4, 1776. Today, We see this as "Independence Day". It was the day in history when representitives from the 13 colonies came together and signed "The Declaration of Independence" drafted by Thomas Jefferson. This is the first time in the Americas that a colony declared its independence from a Europen power.

    On the morning of September 16, 1810, the parish priest of the town of Dolores, <a href='http://latinamericanhistory.about.com/od/latinamericaindependence/p/09gritodolores.htm' >Miguel Hidalgo declared himself in open revolt against Spanish rule from the pulpit of his church, launching the Mexican War of Independence. He exhorted his following to take up arms and join him in his fight against the injustices of the Spanish colonial system and within moments he had an army of some 600 men.

    The Battle of Mendina was fought August 13, 1813, before Mexico got their Independence. It was fought for four hours, rebels of course, trying to attack the royalists of Spain. The attack was planned to ambush a group of the royalists, but the turned quickly into a battle. In the end the Republicans/rebels fled in disorder

    Spanish viceroy Juan O'Donojú signed the treaty of Cordba recognizing the independence of Mexico and close ties of Mexico to Spain.

    Mexico gains independence on September 16, 1821. The day is the equivelent to the U.S's "Fourth of July" but in Mexico.

    Mexico establishes it's first constitution modled onthe constitution of the United States. The Constittution of 1824 stated things like:"1. The Mexican Nation is forever free and independent of the Spanish government, and every other power."
