The Mexican Independence War all started because of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla. Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla was a Catholic priest and was also given the nickname "the father of Mexican Independence.' He was given this nickname for a reason and that reason is because he led a poor army to Mexico City where they almost captured the city. After the loss he fled but was then captured and killed.
