    England and France were in the middle of a war at the time of the beginning of the first crusade. Henry III and Philip II patched up their quarrel and made peace on the battlefield after the archbishop came to ask for help. Many nobles took up the cross and went to fight.

    Richard became king after Henry II. He was going to leave earlier for the Holy Land but people were rebelling and there was a war. But once he became king there was no futher delays for going to the Holy Land.
