It took place in Paris, the attack was on the government by the people of France signaling the start of the French Revolution. The Bastille was a fortress built in the late 1300s to protect Paris. There were approximately 1000 men that participated in the attack.

French women stormed through Versailles demanding Louis XVI end the nationwide food shortage. They forced King Louis to leave Versailles so he could return to Paris to see the poor conditions of the city. After the march was over, King Louis and the Quenn never returned to Versailles.

On September 14 King Louis formally signs a new constitution. The constitution was created after the collapse of absolute monarchy of of the Ancient Regime. It was supposed to adopt constitutionality and establish popular sovereignty

The National Convention was in power for 3 years. It provided a new constitution for France after overthrowing the king. The members were decided by French men over the age of 25 and was made up of 749 members from France and a few other countries.

King Louis XVI was convicted of conspiracy. He was executed by the guillotine. The National Convention convicted the king in an almost unanimous vote.

Robespierre said terror would 'be the order of the day'. He wanted to make terror an official government policy. He established neighborhood watches to find anyone who was not loyal to him.

Robespierre is overthrown, ending the 'Reign of Terror. Approximately 17,000 individuals were executed during 'the Reign of terror'. Robespierre is eventually executed by guillotine.

The directory was a committee of 5 that governed France when it replaced the Committee of Public Safety. It suffered a lot of corruption but the economy recovered from the reign of terror. It was overthrown by Napoleon Bonaparte.

Napoleon Bonaparte returned from Egypt to overthrow the government of France. He staged a coup and sucessfully overthrew of the government. He then appointed himself the leader of France.
