    National Assembly
    ebookKing Louis XVI was determined to follow the old Estates-General ruling where delegates from each estate would meet seperately and only get one vote each. The Third estate rejected this, because they had by far the biggest population, so they decided to call themselves the National Assembly. As part of the National Assembly they passed their own laws without the permission of the King. This was significant because it was the first time a party openly defied the King.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    Tennis Court Oath
    ebookAs a way to stop the third estate delegates, nobles and follwoers of Louis XVI locked the delegates out of their own room at the National Assembly. They broke down a door into a Tennis Court room, and refused to leave. It was their they drafted the Tennis Court Oath declaring a new constitution and freedom. This was significant because it established their party as a real threat to Louis XVI.
  • Storming the Bastille

    Storming the Bastille
    People weren't sure what would happen after the National Assembly. But sure enough, soon later an angry mob of peasants were looking for gunpowder and guns. They stormed the Bastille and ended up seizing it, killing many of the guards and people inside. This event was significant because it makred the first violent action taken in the Revolution,
  • The Rights of Man

    The Rights of Man
    The National Assembly declared the Rights of Man and Citizen - which was basically their delceration and the ideals they would follow. They thought that men were born free and should remain equal throughout their lives. However, women were not considered equal.
  • Louis Tries to Escape

    Louis Tries to Escape
    eBookThe National Assembly was gaining power and Louis XVI and his family no longer felt safe in their home. They attempted to escape in June from France to the Austrian Netherlands. They were apprehended when they got close to the border and eventually had to turn around. This showed how weak Louis XVI was becoming.
  • New Constitution & Weak Monarchy

    New Constitution & Weak Monarchy
    The National Assembly finally finished their new constitution and Louis XVI felt forced to sign it. The new constitution was different because it stripped most power from the King and therefore from the monarchy. It also established a Legislative Assembly.

    The Prussians hated the French Revolution, and demanded the revolutionaries stop and return things back to normal. The revolutionaries were mad and war broke out in Paris, Many people at the royal palaces were killed and the king and his family were imprisoned. We see how big of a deal this is because other countries were getting involved!

    Jacobins Take Control
    The JAcobins were the radical group which enforced most of the government changes in September 1792. These people were fierce and opposed the King and monarchy. They ordered that all followers and supporters of the King be killed. This showed how radical they truly were.
  • Execution of Louis XVI

    Execution of Louis XVI
    Louis VXI was ordered to be killed via guillotine by the National Assembly. On January 21st, he woke up at 5am and after saying good bye to his family headed with many horsemen to the famous slaughter area. Many people watched, and after he was killed his head was raised up to the crowd. This officially marked the end of the absolute monarchy era in France!

    Robespierre
    The Jacobin leader Robespierre gained control of France. He and his people believed in making things extremely different from the way things had been in France. However, his time ruling turned into a bit of a dictatorship. We realize that no ruling situation is perfect.
