  • The estates general is called

    King Louis XVI called the Estates General after over 100 years of not meeting. He needed help because the economy was suffering.
  • The Third Estate Creates the National Assembly

    The three estates were made to vote separately and the first and second would obviously outvote the third. The Third Estate declared itself to be a National Assembly on June 17, 1789 and when Louis had the meeting hall closed to them, they moved to the Tennis Court- June 17, 1789
  • The Bastille is Stormed and Destroyed

    Afraid of rumors about the government attacking the city of Paris , citizens of Paris stormed the Bastille, a prison with gunpowder and weapons, for safety. They killed a bunch of guards and put one's head on a stick.
  • The Great Fear Hits the Rural Areas of France

    Senseless panic that nobles were hiring outlaws to hurt peasants. French peasants were worried with "Great Fear" and some even attacked the nobles and became outlaws themselves.
  • The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen is Written and Accepted

    A document which was similar to the American Declaration of Independence; it preserved French citizens' natural rights. Louis agreed to sign it but had no intentions of following through with his promises.
  • The Constitution of 1791 is Accepted and the Legislative Assembly is Created

    Created by the National Assembly, the Constitution of 1791 set up a limited government; there would still be a king, but a Legislative Assembly would make the laws. King Louis XVI attempted to flee France to escape, but was recognized and brought back.
  • Louis XVI is Executed

    The National Convention put Louis XVI on trial for treason and declared him a traitor to France. Sent him to the guillotine where he died- January 21, 1793
  • The September Massacre

    Marat prints in his paper that their will be a jail break. People in there are enemies of the revolution. A wave of mob violence overtook Paris. By the time it had subsided, half the prison population of Paris had been executed: some 1,200 trapped prisoners, including many women and young boys- September 2-7, 1792
  • Jean-Paul Marat is Assassinated, Jean-Paul Marat is Assassinated

    Charlotte Corday killed Marat in bath tub because she thought that killing him would stop the violence- July 13, 1793, Guillotined by Robespierre for his opposition to the Reign of Terror- April 5, 1794
  • The Congress of Vienna Finishes Meeting

    The Congress of Vienna finished their plan for Europe and finished meeting- June 8, 1815
