The king was in trouble. The nobility was not happy with his attempt to tax their estate. Nobility wanted to pass the cost once again on the Third Estate. -

The Assembly formed a new government and the French monarchy crumbled. -

Laid out the basic principles of the revolution. "Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity." Men are born equal and should remain equal. These rights did not apply to women. -

Ended the independent authority of the King. It symbolized new balance of power. -

Citizens 25 years and older who pays taxes have the right to vote. Kept monarchy but restricted the Kings power. King and queen fled Paris because they "weren't safe," but they were soon brought back. -
