April 21, 753 BC The god Mars had his way with Rhea Silvia, who was supposed to be a virgin. She gave birth to twins who were sent down the river. They grew up and returned to fight. They were succesful. One killed the other and named the city.

264 BC Rome interferes in a dispute on the Carthaginian-controlled island of Sicily. As a result, Rome ends up with control of Sicilly.

202 B.C In the Second Punic War,Hannibal invades and wins LakeTrasimene and Cannae. He is eventually defeated at the hands of Rome's Scipio Africanus.This left Rome in control of the western Mediterranean and much of Spain.

146 B.C. In the Third Punic War, the Romans were led by Scipio. They captured and destroyed the city of Carthage turning Africa into yet another province of the mighty Roman Empire.

508 B.C The period of the ancient Roman civilization characterized by a republican form of government. Began with overthrows and ended through war.

460 B.C The earliest system of the Romans trying to create a law system. It contains personal rights and law protection

200 B.C The first Macedonian war occurred when Philip V of Macedon allied himself with Hannibal during the second Punic War. This resulted in conflicts between the Romans and Macedonians.

197 B.C Romans continued to battle led by Phillip V. They eventually won, freeing the greek cities.

- B.C For the third war, Rome declared war on Macedon because many of the activities of Perseus, in the foreign policy arena, were unfriendly to Rome in early engagements. It was not until the Romans recruited Aemilius Paulus,that they began winning victories over Macedonia.

27 B.C The Roman Empire succeded the Roman Republic. This means they began appointing one leader and began being governed by an autocracy. The first emporor was Augustus.

60 BC. Julius Caesar was a great roman warrior. He returned from exile and became a fierce dictator. He was a large part of the fall of the Roman Republic and Rise of the Roman Empire.

- B.C Augustus heard of Caesar's assasination as a young man.He ruled very well and brought peace to rome. He died at the hight of its prosperity from a sudden illness.

476 AD Romans were attacked by Barbarians. The roman empire gradually fell and was finally declared finished in 476 AD.
