This day is a public holiday in Spain because it conmemorates the Constitutional Referendum of 1978 when the Spanish Constitution was passed. It was the first time that Spanish people could vote democratically about the laws for our country. In Hungary and Germany the children get sweets, because St. Nikolaus came one time and gave sweets to children.
