That year the empire was at its most powerful, This was becasue of the great amount of inhabitants they had. Also Constantinople's cultural crossroads of the Asian and European civilaization.This was the actual height of the Byzantine Empire.

    In 693, the Muslims had started to attack the city of Constantinople. After that battle came the fall of Constantinople, and they had lost North Africa to them. But in 717 through 718, a very large force of Muslims were near by on land and sea in Constantinople. But the Muslims had held back their back their attack.

    Arabs A new threat to the empire with the spread of Islam. Arabs had expanded into North Africa, Persia, and Syria by the 630s, their empire stopping at Constantinople. By the 700s the Byzantine Empire was down-sized to its primary Greek provinces. With the reduction the Byzantine Empire has one language, religion, and culture. So they had major problems with other Islamic people who were coming into their cities and empire.

    The religion had mainly been the influence of the Byzantine art. There was a piece of art that was called an icon and was used to help people in the church. Focus on what was right to them and what was right to them were prayers. Churches were embellished with gold and silver, marble, and icons. Mosaics developed, which are pictures of tiny pieces of colored glass set into plaster. This had come to its end in the year of c. 843, and began in c. 500.

At the university the scholars and government officals had been trained. The church had provided education for the future religious leaders. The rich or wealthy had hired many tutors, and it was mainly for their daughters.

    The Byzantines wanted to keep the Christiany religion going in the city of Constantinople.So the Byzantines turned to their enemy and asked the pope for help to defend Christianity, but those efforts did little. In 1024 Christians from the western empire joined the Venetians to attack Constantinople, burying and looting the city. From that point another Latin culture was reinstalled into Constantinople. This had restored their religion that they had wanted to keep so badly.

    This happened when the Roman Empire had started to split or divide into two seprate parts. The Eastern Empire had became what was known as the Byzantine Empire. The empire had the Balkan Peninsula, Southern Spain, Asia Minor, Syria, Palestine, and North Africa. When Pope had declared Frank the leader or emperor, which caused the split to weaken the Byzantine Empire. This permanent spilt between the two group of people had happened in 1054.

The food, wealth, and trade in Byzantine had grown scarse and was gone. After the surrounding walls had fallen, and the last emperor had been murdered. Christian Byzantine was left openly to the Islamic invaders.

    n 1453, the city was finally and permanently conquered by the Ottoman Turks. Then it was renamed Istanbul by the Ottoman Turks. Byzantine culture, law, and administration came to its final end. This was now the offical end of Constantinople, and the beginning of Istanbul. Everything that was including the Byzantine Empire.
