August 10, 1819: Santander cut off the Spanish advance force near a bridge that was over the Boyaca river. Bolivar’s troops then attacked the main force and captured about 1,800 and the Spanish commander. And Bolivar also captured Bogotá and was hailed as Liberator of New Granada.
