    The Han struggled with collecting enough taxes to fund the court and armies. No one was willing to pay the taxes. The educated officals exempted themselves from taxes. The peasants would scatter throughout the countryside whent the tax collecters came. One of the reasons the peasants were able to scatter was because the farms were getting smaller as the population grew and more people needed land. The news of the tax collectors moved quickly.

    Christans refused to worship the Emporer. This caused turmoil between the people of the Roman Empire.The Christians tried to rid of other religions and the other religons tried to get rid of christianity. Christianity wasn't accepted until February of 311, when Emperor Constantine agreed to let the people of Rome practice Christianity in an agreement called the 'Edict of Milan".

    An ivsion of the barbaric Vandals led to the disintegration of Roman authority. It was the second of three raids of Rome. The Vandals looted the city and destroyed significant objects, hence the term "vandalism". There was very little murder or violence, although Roman captives were sold into slavery. This event had a very negative impact on the Roman economy.

    The collapse of the Gupta Empire was in part due to a succession of weak emperors. There were many disputes which led to the loss of power of these individuals. This caused the regional lords to gain power. The government became so ineffective many people stopped paying taxes. Even those who were personally loyal to the emperor disliked his government and avoided paying their taxes.

    The violent tribe of Huns invaded the Gupta Empire during the reign of Skandagupta. In the beginning they were able to hold off the attacks, but pretty soon the huns invaded. The Gupta government was so preoccipied with protection they eventually grew weaker and weaker. The political unity was destroyed. This played a large part in the fall of the Gupta empire.
