    More than 800 Parisians stod outside the Bastille and demanded weapons and gunpowder. The crown broke through and released prisoners, but no weapons were found. The French celebrate Bastille Day as their Independence Day.

    Nobles voted to end their own rights. They gave up privledges like exemption from taxes. Fuedalisim was abolished. The Assembly issued the Declaration of the Rightd of Man and the Citizen. Six thousand women marched from Paris to Versailles to bring the king back to Paris. The Catholic Church was placed under state control. In 1791 the Constitution was produced.

    The emporer of Austria and the king of Prussia issued the declaration of Pilnits. Two monarchs threatened to intervene to protect the French monarchy in this document. France took this threat seriously and prepared for war.

    King Louis XVI was put on trial then executed by the guillotine. Eight months after his death the queen was also killed.

    Robespierre was a chief architect of the Reign of Terror. The guillotine was the symbol of horror in that time. 300,000 poeple were arrested and 17 thousand were executed.
