World War One

  • Canada in 1914

    Canada was only 47 years old. There was a population of eight million people. Canada was considered a nation of immigration. Canada had only 3000 soldiers. Canada had two ships with 350 men.
  • Western Front

    Soldiers signed up for war eagirly because it was the chivairy thing to do.there were 125 million Allies, and 60 million Central powers. The war lasted four years and four months and cost of 185 million dollars.
  • Start of War

    World war one was the first war. The war started off with only seven European countries but ended in 1918 with over 30. Militarism- the belief in strong armies or navies to decide issues.
    Alliance-Alliances are formed when countries band together against a common threat.
    Imperialism-The policy of establishing colonies away from the homeland and building an empire.
    Nationalism-Feeling of deep loyalty to one's people and homeland.
  • Trench Warfare

    Front line trench- Fliring-and-attack trench, closest to enemy.
    Support trench- Men and supplies that could assault those on the front line trench.
    Communication trench- Allowed movements of messages, supplies, and men among the trenches.
    No-Mans Land is the spaces between the trenches.
  • Shleiffen Plan

    The Germans plan was to knockout Fance. Schlieffen deffended Russia and Belgium. The plan was to invade France through Belgium.
  • Vimy Ridge

    Vimy Ridge was located in Fance. There was unobstructed view for 10 km in length.May 1916 Lt General Sir Julian Byng took control of the Canadian Corps. March !917 Canadians decided to attack. Canadians stormed the ridge at 5:30 am, April 19 1917, it lasted three days.
  • Passchendaele

    The war was orderd mid October 1917, but started July 31 1917 in Flanders. The british, Germans, Australians, New Zealands, and Canadiens were involved. 15, 654 Canadiens were killed. Canada emded up winning the battle.
  • Treaty of Versailles

    Germany had to admit full responsibility for starting the war. Germany had to pay reparations (6.6 billion pounds).
    Cause 232:
    Germany was not permitted an air force, or tanks.
    Was forced to reduce army to 100,000 men.
    Germany was only allowed six naval ships, and no submarines.
  • November 11 1918

    The war was over at 11:11. The war was only supposed to last a couple months but ended up lasting four years and four months. November 11 is Peace Day also known as Rememberance Day. We wear poppies because poppies grew in the fields during World War One.
  • League of Nations

    International organization, headquartered in Geneve, Switzerland. This was formed to resolve international disputes. Ideas were grounded through a distaste for the distruction that the first world war had.
