When Germany invaded Poland, France and Great Britain declared war on Gemany, however Canada did not react, this showed Canada's dependency over any country. When Canada declared war, Canada was very unprepared for war underequipped army. This displayed Canada's bravery. -
Dieppe Riad
The year 1942 had many invasions across the world, with bombing and disatrous raids. The Dieppe Raid, led by Canada, was a brutal battle. 5,000 Canadians came in, 2,000 returned, 1,000 killed and 2,000 was inprisoned. The Dieppe Raid was a huge failure but was truly significant as it assited both the allies and Germans iporve on their strageties and tatics on their future decisions. -
Normandy
The Canadians played an influential role in the battle to take Caen. Canada advanced along the French seacoast to the Pas-de-Calais and took Dieppe on 1st of September. Canadians and British forces worked together in the freeing the Scheldt Estuary. This success led to the first Allied convoy to arrive in Antwerp in November 1944. Canada's teamwork with the British and the French are truly displayed in the battles. -
The Cost of Battle
Canadian, British and American force made the first full-scale invasion of mainland Europe. Starting on September 3rd, attacking on the 'toe' of Italy and reaching Naples on 1st October. Canadian troops fought at Ortona and Monte Cassino and in May 1944 attacked on the Hitler line, they were very successful. This was very significant because it was the first major operation by a Canadian forces and displayed Canaa's capability of independence.
