Battle of the Atlantic
Running for the course of the war the battle of the atlantic was when the allied countries where sending over supplys and soliders to Britain the Nazis had new technology the submarie. The Nazis would target ships going over to Britain and would fire underwater missles to bring the ships down. The Nazis did this to keep Britain from getting supplys from canada and other countries to weaken Britain in hopes they would be able to take Britain. -
Canada declares war
Canada delcared war on germany on Sep/9/1939 after the Nazis invaded poland on Sep/1/1939. When Canada declared war on Sep 9 it went into affect on sep 10. one major diffrence compared to WW1 is that Canada was now it sown country and did not have to go to war with Britain when they declared war. Althought Canada did not have to go to war with Britain they where still very loyal and wanted to support Britain in the war. -
Battle of Britain
Nazi forces started the first major campaine of the war which was operation sea lion also known as the battle of Britain. the Nazi air forces flew over to Britan and bombed British factories,sea ports and air bases.the Nazis plan for bombing Britain was to go in during night so the British would`nt see them comming in. During the raids londoners would go hide in subways and shelters. The nazis kept boming Britian for months but gave up after the British would`nt give up or be deafeted. -
Japenese Internment
In Canada after the attack on pearl harbour all canadian japanese people of of japanese heritage had all of their buisnesses and homes taken by the Canadian Goverment. they also had many of their Rights and freedoms taken away even the Japanese Canadians who were born in Canada had them taken. As well in 1944 the prime minister made all Japanese Canadians move east into interment camps where they were forced to work. the goverment did this as they thought that they were spies for the Japanese -
Canadas Conscription Plebiscite
In spring of 1942 a Plebiscite on conscription was held in Canada by the prime minister of Canada Mackenzie King to introduce a compulsory overseas military service for Canadians. All canadians voted in it and came out to 66% of canadians voting yes with the rest voting no and quebec as a whole voted strongly against it. -
Battle of Dieppe
The battle of Dieppe was when the British and Canadian and other allies in the war planed and attack on the town of Dieppe in Nazi occupied france to test the Nazi defences . There were around 6000 men that were sent to Dieppe more then 60% of them were killed and many others were captured. the plan was to attack in the early morning but troops were not prepared and lost the attack of suprise as they did not attack till the sun was up and the Nazis saw them coming and were prepared. -
D day
D day was the day that the allies invaded Nazi france for the second time put were able to win a part of northern france called Normandy. the allies were able to win back Normandy with a thought out plan that was to decive the enemy, use the air force more and to hold the english channel. during D day the allies had to get through the Atlantic sea wall that was set up by the Nazis that was a extensive system of fortifacations. -
Liberation of the Netherlands
The liberation of the Netherlands was a period of about a year near the end of the war when the allies were advancing to Nazi germany and when Canada was able to help liberat the Netherlands from Nazis control. there was a attempt made eariler in the war to free the Netherlands but it failed. The second attempt was when Canadian soldiers were able to break through Nazi defences and were able to free the Netherlands. And every year the Netherlands sends thousands of tulips to Canada as thanks.
