During his second term in office he introduced the old age pension, and appointed the first female senator.

During his final term as PM he did a many number of great things including leading canada through second world war, introducing the unemployment insurance act and family allowances act, and the construction of the Alaska Highway. This final term made him the longest serving canadian Prime Minister in history. He then resigned in 1948.

On this day King officially announced that Canada was entering world War II against Germany and independently of Britain. During the war king also avoided Conscription.

Passed away in Kingsmere, near Ottawa, at the age of 76. Nearly 2 years after resigning as PM.

In 1969 the scenes of Canada series of banknotes was introduced. On the $50 dollar bill was Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King. He is still on the $50 dollar banknote as of today.
