    -Came looking for riches such as gold and precious stones, instead found fish and animal fur

    -With help from aboriginal cultures, the french established a colony called New France

    - Huge numbers of immigrants came in 1896 because of the good agriculture, campaigning and easier transportation
    - Alberta and Saskatchewan created in 1905 due to the benefits of the west

    -Also The Dust Bowl in the Praries reduced immigration due to bad conditions

    -In the first 10 years of immigration, immigrants were mostly highly education and skilled
    -By 1981 refugees make up 25% of immigrants in Canada
