    Revelation of Soviet missiles under construction in Cuba.President Kennedy imposed a naval quarantine around Cuba. On October 22nd President Kennedy proclaimed that any nuclear missile launched from Cuba would be regarded as an attack on the United States and soviets were damanded to remove all there offensive weapons from Cuba.Tensions finally began to ease on October 28 when Khrushchev announced that he would dismantle the installations and return the missiles to the Soviet Union.

Since the end of the war, the Vietnam War has become a benchmark for what not to do in all future U.S. foreign conflicts.
