    Isreal declared independence. Egypt , Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, & Iraq attacked Isreal.Isreal gained land. Egypt gained the Gaza Strip snd Jordan gaind the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and Jews bacame refugees.

    Egypt blockaded Isreal. Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, & Iraq moved troops to Isreal's borders and made threatening statements. Isreal launched a preenptive strike. Isreal captured the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, the Golan Heights from Syria, and the Gaza Strip and all of the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt. More Palestinians and Jews became refugees. Terrorism became more common.

    Isreal demanded recognition and the right to exist from the other Arab countries. The countires met up and decided not to agree. They started to attack Isreal. Egypt took part in small scale attacks until 1970. Then the PLO launched attacks around Isreali bases in the middle east. Jordan got the Plo out of their country, so the PLO moved to Lebanon.

    The Isrealis pushed back an attack made by Syria and Egypt on the holiest day of the Jewish year, Yom Kippur. Isrealis recognized the importance of buffer zones after this.

    The U.S. used intense diplomacy to cause Egypt to sign a peace agreement with Isreal. Ehypt also did this because the constant fighting was a strain on Egyptian economy. The agreement was a model for Isreal's "land for peace" policy.

    Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip started uprisings, and the PLO gave them weapons. Isreal were accused of having a too harsh response to this, and the conflict continued until the signing of the Oslo Accords.

    Israel and the PLO signed a DOP. The Palestinian Authority was created. Israel recognized the PLO as a representative of Palestinians, and both were accused of not fulfilling obligations.

    The U.S. led a diplomatic process to have Jordan sign a peace treaty with Israel. Trade, business tourism, cultural exchanges, and scientific cooperation increased at a slow rate between Jordan and Israel.

    Israel planned to build a barrier to segarate their people from terrorists that were in the West Bank. This dramatically reduced the number of suicide bombs in Israel, however, it has been criticized by many people.

    The Roadmap for Peace was a plan for peace proposed by "The Quartet", which consisted of the United States, the European Union, Russia, and the United Nations. It planned for an independent Palestinian State and a secure Israel. As a result, there have been many stoppages in the negotiations, but the negotiations were most recently reaffirmed in 2007, yet no significant progress has been made.

    Israel Disengages from Gaza
    The Israeli prime minister, Ariel Sharon, moved towards a policy for separation of Isreal from Palestine and for Israel to withdraw from the Gaza Strip. It resulted in a large increase in the number of rockets fired into Israel from Gaza.

    On this date, the Hamas members were selected to the Palestinian Authority. When they were elected, they called for the destruction of Isreal and the killing of all Jews. It resulted in many Western nations imposing sanctions and suspending their aid to Palestine.

    Israel and Egypt began a blockade of Gaza to prevent Hamas from smuggling weapons. As a result of this blockade, Israel gained control of a Turkish ship headed to Gaza asking to review the ship before allowing it to go into Gaza, but the ship refused. This ended up deteriorating the relationship between Israel and Turkey.
