  • 1948 War

    1948 War
    Israel declared independence. Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq attacked Israel. Israel gained land. Egypt gained the Gaza Strip and Jordan gained the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Hundreds of Thousnads of Palestinians and Jews became refugees.
  • Six Day War or The 1967 War

    Six Day War or The 1967 War
    Egypt blockaded Israel. Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Iraq moved troops to Israel's borders and made threatening statements. Israel launched a preemptive strike. Israel captured the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, the Golan Heights from Syria, and the Gaza Strip and all of the Sanai Peninsula from Egypt. More Palestinians and Jews became refugees. Terrorism became more common.

    Settlement Construction Begins
    The Israeli government approved the building of settlements in Sinai, Gaza and West Bank. Arguments broke out about these settlements. Palestines believe they take up too much room for a future Palestinian state. These also drain the Israeli military needs to be ressolved for the Peace Treaty.

    Israel gained land from Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. Israel wanted peace and Arab nations would not make peace or negotiate with Israel because Israel took much land from Arab nations. The Palestine Liberation Organization or PLO carried out attacks on Israeli military and Jordan, Lebonan, Syria, and Egypt. In the "Black September" of 1970 during these battles Jordan forced the PLO out of Jordan. The PLO then moved its base to Lebonan.

    Egypt and Syria attacked Israel during Yom Kippur. The U.S. convinced Israel to withdrawal from the territories it had entered. After the war Israel retained the territories captured in 1967, but did not keep additional land.

    Egypt and Israel Sign a Peace Agreement
    Egypt became the first Arab country recognize Israel and enter a peace treaty with Israel. Israel gave Egypt back all of the Sinai that had been captured in 1967 and removed Jewish families from the area.
  • The 1982 Lebanon War

    The 1982 Lebanon War
    PLO units in Lebanon attacked Israel more frequently. Israel launched an attack on the PLO in Lebanon. Israel succeeded in moving the PLO out of Lebanon and into Tunisia. Israel soon withdrew from from the turmoil stricken land in June 1985, but kept forces there in the buffer zone to prevent terrorist acts in Israel.
  • The First Intifada 1987-1993

    The First Intifada 1987-1993
    Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank engaged in an uprising against Israeli control of the land they used imprvised weapons from the PLO as well as suicide bombings. Israel responded with harsh counter measures. An equal number of Palestinians were killed in this war as in there own in-fighting. Continued until 1993.
  • The Oslo Accords

    The Oslo Accords
    A set of agreements between the PLO and Israel. It called Israel to draw its military out of the Gaza Strip, but they could still keep their people there. They had finally recognized each other. This was meant as an interim agreement before the peace treaty, but both sides accused each other of not fulfilling their obligations.

    The U.S. tried to arrange peace between Israel and Jordan. This leads to Jordan recognizing Israel, which in turn leadas to trade, business, cultural exchange, and scientific cooperation increased between the countries.

    President Bill Clinton meets with Palestine Arafet and the Israeli Prime Minister in order to negotiate a final status of the conflict. Arafet refuses to comprimise, and rejects a deal.

    The Arab League offers peace to Israel if they withdrawal from territories taken durin gth 1967 war. This is the first time Arab nations decide to recognize isreal. Israel welcomes the idea.

    The Roadmap is a 3 step plan that is aimed at securing peace. It has not gotten past the first stage. It was delayed by the election of a terrorist group.
  • Israel Disengages from Gaza

    Prime minister Ariel Sharon seperated Israel from Palestine territories leaving the Palestinians to govern themselves. This resulted in an increasement in the amount of rockets fired from Gaza into Israel

    In January Palestinians elected mostly Hamas members to the Palestine Authority's legislature over the over the other political group PLO fatah. As a result of Hamas getting so much power they launched terrorist attacks so western nations countered by putting sactions on the Palestine Authority until they got Hamas out of powe.

    The 2006 Lebanon war
    Hezbollah crossed the Lebanon-Israeli border and attacked an Israeli unit killing capturing 8 and capturing 2 who were later killed so Israel launched air strikes on them. Many civilians died and UN cease fire Resolution 1701 was passed on August 11, 2006 ending the war .

    Between Hamas and PLO since Hamas won the election in 2006. In 2007 Hammas attacked fatah members so in response the Palestianian Authority president Mahoud Abbas tried to get rid of the Hamas goverment. Hamas ended up controlling Gaza and Palestinian Authority controls the West Bank

    Israel Hamas targets in Gaaza to stop rocket attacks on southern Israel. Hundreds of militants died and a lot of civilians as well since Hamas launched attacks in urban areas. Also Gaza's buildings and economy were damaged.

    Hamas got control from the Palestine Authority. So Israel and Egypt began to blockade Gaza in search for weapons. On May 2, 2010 refused to have their cargo inspected and when they were boarded they attacked the military and 9 turkish rebels were killed. Turkey and Israel who were once allies had their relationship downgraded.

    An Israeli general visited a temple that is important to Muslims, as well as Jews. Palestines began to riot, which lead to bloodshed. Israeli's were then terrorized by suicide bombers, and retaliated by targeting terrorists, which lead to civilian casualties.
