The Munitions Scandal
Sam Hughes, Canadas minister of militia and defence, responded to the war by making his friends who were already wealthy business people, richer.
Hughes associated with Shell’s Committee, whose members used their influence to land and profit from, one hundred and seventy million dollars in government contracts to make artillery shells.
In 1915, this profiteering and making, excessive profits had leaked.
The Scandal ruined Hughes’ career. -
Vimy Ridge And Canadian Identity
