  • War Measures Act -1

The war measures act was a law that was passed that gave many woman more rights. But it also took many rights way from Canadians who were born in enemy countries. So when this act was passed it took away the rights of many civilians. This act enabled for police to arrest and imprison Canadians from enemy countries without charging them. The act also allowed these civilians to be easily deported with no trial. this was a very low time for Canada. as we were treating people so poorly.
  • McClung's Petition +1

McClung was a woman is Alberta Canada who presented the legislature for the right for women to vote. This petition was a very big step in the fight for women right to vote and lead to the right being passed two moths later at a municipal election in Alberta. This sparked the fight in all the other provinces to fight for the right to vote.
  • Battle of Ypres

This was the first battle that the Canadian troops fought in.This was Canadas first chance to prove themselves as well trained soldiers which they proved when they faced the first large-scale gas attack. But more then 6,500 Canadians were dead, injured or taken during this battle which is not good. This was the first battle where the enemy tested a new weapon called chlorine gas. They proved themselves by fighting the enemy during this gas attack and staying brave and holding their ground.
  • Anti-German riots +1

I would say this is a important part of Canada history because it shows how much hate was happening during the war. And it wasn't only soldier fighting in this war there was fighting amongst Canadians. This was important to highlight because it really shows the civil and social issues that were happening during this time and how innocent people and their reputations were affected because of their background.
  • Battle of Vimy Ridge -1

This battle was one of Canadas most celebrated victories and was the birth of Canadian national pride and awareness. The battle took place in northern France. In this battle all four divisions of the Canadian corps fought and captured the land this was the largest territorial advance the allied forces had gained yet in the war. But unfortunately many Canadian lives were lost in this battle but still to today there is a memorial repersenting the lives lost in this battle.
  • First elected women +2

Louise McKinney and Roberta MacAdams were two of the first women in the British empire to be voted into legislature.MacAdams work in the legislature led towards teacher training schools in Edmonton Alberta and she also wrote reports that led to funding of women's institutes which was a rural support for women. McKinney was a women rights activist and is known for being part of the famous 5.Her signature was on the legal petition to make women recognized as people under the constitution.
  • Military service Act -2

The military service act was the law also known as conscription. It was passed by prime minister Robert Boden. Its purpose was to make it mandatory for all men ages 20-45 had to become a soldier in the war. This created large tensions in Canada amongst the citizens and many Canadians did not agree with this law. It made the French-Canadians because they felt they had no part in the war and didn't want to get dragged into it.This created a very large divide in Canada between Canadians.
  • Treaty of Versailles +2

This treaty was signed to signify the ending of the WW1 and to bring peace to all the nations involved.Even though Canada had little effect on what happened with this treaty it was still a big time for our country because we were still under the rule of the British empire and they had a big part in what happened and the peace gained by the treaty. But our prime minister fought for separate representation and a Canadian signature on the treaty.
  • Prohibition -1

Prohibition was an act passed to ban the production, storage, transportation, sale, and possession of alcoholic beverages. This law was passed to see if it would reduce crime, social problems and corruption. But the law showed little to no positive results. It actually created much more organized crime corruption of governed officials. This act also made it so that drinkers had to find something else to do and many turned to hard drugs. In conclusion this was not a good time for Canada.
  • Peace Conference in Paris +2

This was a very important time for Canada because it was the first real step that Canada took towards independence. This was because Prime Minister Boden believed that Canada had such a large part in the war that they should have separate representation from Britain and he fought for Canada to sign the treaty of versailles. He won this fight but in the end the British prime minister signed for the entire British empire but it was still a big step towards Canadas independence.
