The Rench Warfare was a 4-year long event that helped Canada progress. The trench warfare gave Canada an idea of a large war which helped us improve our armies, and weapons to the level that other countries had developed it too.

The Battle of Ypres was Canadians first major battle at Ypres Salient and decline was made. About one-third of 6,000 soldiers were killed, injured or taken captive since it was the first time that chlorine fumes were used to attack.

On February 9, 1917, Jeremiah Jones and other black Canadian soldiers were assigned to the Royal Canadian Regiment. This showed progress for Canada because Jeremiah along with 15 other black soldiers was allowed for the first time to fight alongside the Aboriginals and whites.

The Conscription showed a decline for the progress of Canada because it took away the rights of Canadians to chose whether they wanted to be apart of the army at war or not.

The Halifax Harbor Explosion showed a decline for Canada because approximately 2,000 people died and 9,000 were injured when a ship carrying bombs crashed into a Norton ship due to miss-communication, causing an explosion.

On June 27, 1918 Mae Belle was killed when a hospital ship was bombed by the Germans. However, this is still progress for Canada because Mae Belle Sampson was one of the first nurses allowed to go overseas during the First World War part of the Canadian Army Medical Corps.

On November 11, 1918, the first world war came to an end. This made great progress for Canada because of the Canadian military, Canada won a separate signature on the Peace Treaty.

Following the first world war ending, the cost of living rose greatly. Winnipeg's workers that constructed buildings and metal went on strike to receive higher wages. This was a decline for Canada because the strike was from May 1, 1919, to June 25, 1919.

Canada made great progress on October 18, 1929, when Woman was announced as "Persons". 5 Alberta woman: Emily Murphy, Nellie McClung, Irene Parlby, Louis McKinney, and Henrietta Muir Edwards fought a legal and political battle to have women recognized as persons under the British North America Act.
