  • Canada's population

In 1914 Canada had a population of mostly young people.(52% under the age of 25) There were 437,347 more men than women. Canada wasn't a military nation in 1914. The economy was all about production from forestry and agriculture (especially grain) to manufacturing. This had a +1 because they were still developing and when the war came they developed even more.

Francis Pegahmagabow was an Ojibwa from the Parry Island Band in Ontario. He was one of 4 000 Aboriginals who served in the war. He was one of the original members of the 1st Canadian Infantry Battalion and fought at the 2nd battle of Ypres in April 1915 and the battle of the Somme in the fall of 1916. In the trenches he experienced many horrors. Despite all the deaths Francis was able to stay alive and be recognized as a leader and excellent sniper. this is progress +1 because he carried them.
  • Leo Le Boutillier, Thomas-Louis Tremblay and French-Canadian Soldiers.

Leo Le Boutillier, Thomas-Louis Tremblay and French-Canadian Soldiers.
French Canadian soldiers were not taken serious in the military because they had a hard time reading the English manuals. They didn't let anyone take advantage of them. Most men loved their role and country. After the 22nd Battalion most men were able to move up in the ranks. On July 1st the Newfoundland regiment suffered and lost a lot of men the French Canadian soldiers helped and held their positions. This is progress +2 for Canadians cause they showed there bravery and never gave up.
  • Women on the Home Front

    Women on the Home Front
In 1917 about 1 in 8 women worked for the war production. The war caused a food shortage. Women offered their work at farms for long hours small wages. Also in 1917 a national election was held, Prime Minister Borden opened the right to vote to women. The only problem was you had to have family member in the military plus you had to be white. I think this is progress +1 for Canada because they slowly opened the right to vote for women and today everyone is equally allowed to vote.
  • Jeremiah Jones and Black Canadian Soldiers

Jeremiah Jones and Black Canadian Soldiers
Black soldiers weren't always allowed in the military. Jeremiah Jones enlisted in the 106th overseas battalion. At Vimy Ridge he was 1 of the 16 black soldiers. Jeremiah had rescued his unit from an enemy machine gun trap in what was to become a battle that is now known as Canada's greatest success and source of great national pride. What he did was very heroic but most important he proved a black man can do the same thing as a white man. This is progress +2 because he stood up for blacks.

As world war 1 was going on in Europe. Ships were common to carry explosives, troops ,weapons and more. On December 6 a ship from the Halifax harbour left for New York, at the same time a French ship with almost 2500 tons of explosives on board collided with the other ship causing a massive explosion and devastation for Halifax and Canada. Many people died and homes, and farms were ruined. This was a decline -2 as ruined many homes and farms which caused a domino effect on everyone else.
  • Canada's Hundred Days

    Canada's Hundred Days
In the year of 1918, the Canadian corps had a good reputation in the war. Canada planed to attack German ground with a genius plan. When ever you saw Canadian corps come close you knew there was going to be a war. So they distracted the Germans by sending some troops to the north and then attacked from the west. Canada was successfully able to take over German land. This is progress +1 because we were one step closer to wining the war.
