    Voila Desmond was dragged out of a movie theater because she sat on the main floor. This incident started the awareness of racism experienced by black Canadians. Viola was given a posthumous pardon in 2010 and she now appears on the Canadian ten dollar bill

    The First Nations were given the right to vote starting in British Columbia
  • Newfoundland becomes Province

    Newfoundland becomes Province
    Newfoundland joined Canada as the tenth Province with the signing of the Capital Act of Westminster.

    Canada joins NATO with eleven other countries to become an important world partner with countries like the USA and great Britain

    The St Lawrence Seaway was opened by the Queen of England and the President of the United States. This opened up Canada for large container ships to bring goods deep into Canada and the United States.
