    As soon as Great Britian decided to join the war, Canada automatically joined the war aswell. At the time Canada had a really small army but after it was announced that Canada was joining World War 1,1000's of people had joined to participate.

    The machine gun was the most effictive weapon during World War 1 and it had benefited the Canadians alot. It was simple to use and it could kill lots of people in a short period of time. Overall it helped Canada.

    The Second Battle of Ypres was the first major battle that Canada had participated in. Germany had attacked with their new deadly weapon: chlorine gas, which lead to the French having to retreat.But then the Germans had been stopped by the Canadian troops. This is important for Canada because it showed that they could step up and be equal to Britian and France.

    Battle of the Somme was undoubtly the most bloody war in WW1.It started on the first day of July,1916 near the Somme River in France. The Allies losses were an estimated 623,000 and of those there were around 24,000 Canadians. Battle of the Sommewas a terrible endurance test that proved candian soldiers could endure.

    Billy Bishop was a Canadian fighter pilot who got 72 confirmed kills. He was seen by many as couragous and brave but others often saw him as careless and dumb. Which ever way you look at him you cannot deny that he contributed to Canada.

    The Battle of Vimy Ridge is believed to be the best battle that Canada have ever won or even participated in. The Canadians had been ordered to seize Vimy Ridge in 1917 after the French had tried and failed. The Canadians then fought the Germans and beat them. This battle proved Canada could have their own shadow instead of always being behind Britians.
  • Battle of Passchendale

    Canadian troops had captured Belguims Passchendale. The Canadians had arrived to the battle three months after it started and started attacking. In the end the Canadians had came out victories even though they had a little over 15,000 casualties. This battle had proved that Canada had an elite force as the British couldn't defeat them but the Canadians could.
