  • Beginning of France

    In the 1700s, france was considered the most advanced country of europe. That was because it had a large population and a successful foreign trade.
  • France was in debt

    During the 1770s and 1780s France's government faced debt. One of the reasons for that to happen was because of all of the money that King Louis XVI and his wife, Marie Antoinette spent. King Louis borrowed a lot of money to help the American revolutionaries in their war against Great Britain. That doubled the government's debt.
  • King faced some problems

    In 1786, Louis faced serious problems because the bankers refused to lend any more money to the government, therefore he didn't have many money anymore.
  • Increase of prices

    In 1789, the price of the bread doubled. Because it was very expensive, many people died because of starvation since they couldn't afford the bread.
  • Important meeting

    In May 5, 1789, was the meeting to approve the new tax. The new tax was to impose taxes to the novelty as well. That would make the king have more money since there would be more people to give him taxes.
  • Protest

    On June 17, 1789, they voted to establish the National Assembly which was to protest the end of absolute monarchy and the beginning of representative government. This was the first vote that was on purpose.
  • Declaring their love

    In the night of August 4, 1789, noblemen made grand speeches, declaring their love of liberty and equality. What motivated them was fear and not idealism.
  • King and family moving away

    In June 1791, the royal family tried to escape from France to the Austrian Netherlands since they were in danger. That was because there were many people that were against them so they preferred to move out.
  • France war began

    The france war began by the summer of 1792, Prussian forces were advancing on Paris.
  • National assembly

    In September 1991, the national assembly completed the new constitution, which Louis approved unwillingly. This constitution limited constitution of monarchy.
