    The Magna Carta

    The Magna Carta
    The Magna Carta proclaimed that people living on the land (serfs were not considered people therefore this did not apply to them) were only able to be punished through the laws of the land. The Magna Carta put restraints on the King and how he ruled the country which created a building block for the Whigs of England as well as the Lockeans (those who studied under the philosophy of John Locke)who believed that their new constitution should be based on social contracts like the Magna Carta.
  • English Civil War

    English Civil War
    A group of conflicts between the "parlimentarians" and the "royalists." The Parlimentarians believed that the power should be given to a separate ruling body. The Royalists believed that King Charles II was a good enough leader and they should just leave it alone.
  • Death of King Charles I

    Death of King Charles I
    King Charles was convicted of being a tyrant and a traitor to the country of England. He was executed in public by beheading on the 30th of January 1694.
  • End of English Civil War

    End of English Civil War
    Parliamentarian victory and ended with the execution of King Charles I. Oliver Cromwell ended up being the new leader.
  • Oliver Cromwell in Office

    Oliver Cromwell in Office
    Oliver Cromwell being inaugurated and given the power from the King lead to the UK getting a taste of what Parlimentary life would be like. Cromwell promised that there'd be a parliment yet the way he was dealing with the country was more of a dictatorship or absolute monarchy than as a Constitutional Monarchy. To Cromwell, the constitution that had been developed was just a piece of paper.
  • The Glorious Revolution

    The Glorious Revolution
    The Overthrow of King James the Second of England by "Parlimentarians" and William of Orange. William and his Wife, Mary, became King and Queen of England, thus becoming the new monarchs of a new Constitutional Monarchy.
  • Bill of Rights Enacted

    Bill of Rights Enacted
    The Bill of Rights is an Act of Parliment which was the official restatement that gave the Parliment the power after Cromwell had become more of an absolute monarch than a leader. The Bill of Rights lays out specific powers that each branch holds.
